Andreas Lewin
Studied philosophy and political science in Heidelberg, and acting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main as well as the University of the Arts in Berlin; pursued further training and served as a lecturer at the European Film College in Denmark. Worked as an actor at theaters in Berlin, Mannheim, Weimar, Oberhausen, and Kraków, among others. Produced and directed several feature-length documentaries profiling theater and film actors and directors for the broadcasters RBB, SWR, and BR. For his films, Andreas Lewin has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including those from the Academy of Arts, the NIPKOW Programme, Akademie Schloss Solitude, the DEFA Foundation, and the INITIAL Fellowship of the Academy of Arts/Neustart Kultur.
studied Drama at Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt / Main and at Universität der Künste in Berlin, as well as Documentary Direction at the European Film College in Denmark. He has worked as an actor at theatres including Berlin, Weimar, Oberhausen and Kraków from 1995. Since 2000, he has produced and directed several longer documentaries on film and theatre actors and directors. Many of Andreas Lewin's films were awarded grants by: Akademie der Künste, NIPKOW-Programm, Akademie Schloss Solitude, DEFA-Stiftung. Since 2006, he has been the director of the DOKU.ARTS Festival which he founded at the Akademie der Künste. He has also curated films for, amongst others, Wien Modern, Instituto Moreira Salles, Rio de Janeiro and Eye Film Institute, Netherlands. He has taught as a lecturer at the European Film College, Denmark, Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig, Korean Film Archive and Goethe Institut. Since 2020 director of the Braunschweig International Filmfestival. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
